17 Jun 2016 - 13 Aug 2016

The exhibition ‘Cornfields in Accra’ is a blaxTARLINES exhibition project held at the Museum of Science and Technology in Accra. blaxTARLINES is the contemporary art project space of the Department of Painting and Sculpture, KNUST, Kumasi. The exhibition showcased the works of 80 artists and spanned a wide variety of emergent practices in Ghana. The exhibition’s title ‘Cornfields in Accra’ is an adaptation of Ama Ata Aidoo’s poem, a meditation on resilience in crisis moments. This theme was fundamental to the practices of selected artists, especially, of the late Cameroonian artist Goddy Leye whose life work was honoured with the inclusion of his sound installation. Exhibition labels and texts were translated into braille to expand access to the visually impaired. ‘Cornfields in Accra’ went on record as the largest scale contemporary art exhibition in Ghana, attracting about 15,000 local and international visitors.
